St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. If you are looking for a fun craft to make with your preschooler or early elementary age children this might be just the thing.
This craft is super simple and fun for kids to put together. It’s also a great way to help them to focus on the good things they have in their lives.
St. Patricks Day Treasure Craft
Supplies
A copy of the St. Patrick’s Day pot ( you can download this at the bottom of the post)
1 piece of black construction paper
Pencil
Scissors
Glue stick
Crayons
Directions
First, use your scissors to cut out the pot template on the printable.
Next, fold your black construction paper in half. Place your pot template on top of your folded construction paper and trace around it. Make sure that the bottom of the pot touches the fold.
Place your pot template on top of your folded construction paper and use a pencil to trace around it. Make sure that the bottom of the pot touches the fold. Keep the pot template on hand because you will be using it again later.
Cut out your pot. Be sure that you leave some of the fold intact on the bottom of the pot so the pot can open and close.
Next, cut out the golden treasure on the printable. If you have a black and white version you can let your child color the coins first. Then, open the pot and glue the gold to the top of the top pot.
Cut the lip of the pot off your treasure pot template and glue it to the inside of the top pot.
Now your child can draw pictures inside the pot of things that they are thankful to have. You can easily tailor this craft to your child’s ability.
When I do this with my own children, I plan on having my preschoolers color their own picture and I will label them for them. My kindergartner will color and label the pictures himself. For my second grader, I will have her color pictures on the top and then add a square of lined paper to the bottom pot for her to write about some of the treasures she has in her life.
Once you are done with the inside of your treasure pot you can have your child cut out the poem from their printable. Complete the craft by closing the treasure pot flap back up and glue the poem to the front. Now you’re done!
I hope you have a fun time making this St. Patrick’s Day craft with your kiddos.
